As the “dual carbon” goals continue to advance, large-scale photovoltaic power projects—such as agrivoltaics and aquavoltaics—are expanding across the country at an unprecedented pace. These innovative models not only make efficient use of vast rural land and water resources, seamlessly integrating clean energy generation with agricultural and fishery development to achieve high-efficiency, multi-use of land, but also deliver tangible economic benefits to local farmers and fishermen. In agrivoltaic projects, shade-tolerant crops are grown beneath the solar panels, which neither compromises photovoltaic efficiency nor reduces agricultural output; in aquavoltaics, solar panels are installed over fish ponds, providing shade and relief from summer heat for the fish while generating electricity that creates additional income for aquaculture operators. Moreover, these projects stimulate the development of related industrial chains, including photovoltaic equipment manufacturing, installation and maintenance, and intelligent monitoring, thereby injecting new vitality into local economies. Looking ahead, with ongoing technological advancements and sustained policy support, agrivoltaics and aquavoltaics will be further optimized and upgraded, playing an even greater role in the transformation of the energy structure while serving as key drivers of rural revitalization and green development, thus propelling China toward a more sustainable, low-carbon future.
